Aftercare Tips

Pre-Treatment Reminders

  1. Stay out of the sun! 
  2. Always use a mineral based sunblock (SPF 50+)
  3. No antibiotics – 2 weeks

Sun Exposure

Avoid sun exposure altogether throughout the entire removal process for the best possible result. This also includes sunless tanning! We recommend the following ways to protect your skin from the sun:
Applying SPF 50+ Zinc Oxide Sunscreen
Keeping the tattoo covered with clothing, waterproof bandages, or athletic wrap

Side Effects

Blistering –
Blisters can be common with tattoo removal. Both swelling and blistering can be minimized or prevented by resting, icing and elevating the tattoo immediately following your treatment. If your tattoo develops small blisters, do not pop, scratch, or peel them—they will be reabsorbed on their own in 7-10 days.

Irritation –
Several types of irritation can occur after each laser tattoo removal treatment. It is normal for your tattoo to have minimum to moderate redness. To promote healing, apply a thick layer of Vaseline, Aquaphor or hydrocortisone 1% and lightly cover with a clean, non-stick gauze pad three times a day until fully resolved.

Discoloration (changes in skin tone) –
Sometimes the skin will lighten/darken slightly after treatment. This typically resolves in time and topical treatments can help.

Itching –
Itching can occur during your laser tattoo removal process, even once the tattoo is
healed. We recommend applying hydrocortisone 1%.

Infection –
Infections are extremely rare but can occur if you do not keep the compromised skin clean and covered. If you notice any surrounding redness it’s important to get in touch with us right away!

Strong Immune System

A strong immune system can make all the difference and result in a faster, more successful removal process. A few ways to boost your immune system for tattoo removal:

➔ Eat Clean!
➔ Exercise!
➔ Quit Smoking!

Rachael

Rachael found her passion and purpose in life when she became an LPN in 2017 and could make a positive impact on her patients’ lives. Before working with Renewal, Rachael specialized in rehabilitative care and became dedicated to her patients’ recovery process. Her compassion and devotion has made her an extremely valuable addition to the Renewal team since joining us in 2019. The close bond of our small office is Rachael’s favorite thing about her job, and if you speak with her, she will tell you how much she looks forward to coming into work every day. In her free time, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband and niece and nephew.

Gina

Gina is Renewal’s office manager. She attended Western Carolina University and received her Bachelor of Science in Business Management, Marketing and Sales. She is very knowledgeable and dedicated to this practice and our patients, making certain all your needs are met in a timely, efficient and caring manner. Gina will work tirelessly to make sure your entire experience is not only smooth but rather enjoyable. She handles our busy practice with ease and with a smile on her face. In her free time, Gina enjoys spending time with her husband and children, hosting dinner parties, and traveling with friends and family.

Deidre

Deidre is originally from Cary, and currently lives in Raleigh. She’s an interpreter but also helps out with a little bit of everything around the office. She graduated from UNC Greensboro with a degree in Spanish and worked as an interpreter at a law firm after graduation. She has been involved in the interpreting industry for four years. Deidre is passionate about traveling and trying different cuisines. When not working, she enjoys dining out at new places, and spending time with my family, friends, and pets. She is always looking for new opportunities and ways to grow professionally and personally and strives to always help make a difference in people’s lives.
